Our next article Dr . Abbas Mohammadzadeh deals with the “Contingency Models for Organizational Development”. It explains why some organizations undergo major overhauls due to their failure in achieving organizational goals. The article offers guidelines fur achieving desirable performance under changing environmental conditions. Four principal models are discussed. They are the mechanistic model, the organic model, the traditional-handcraft model, and the mechanistic-organic model. These models are examined by such criteria as performance, structure, resources, environmental conditions. culture, and the weak point process. While there is not a single model that can be used as the most appropriate One under every conditions, a mix of these models have been useful in modifying organizational structure to yield improved productivity and desirable performance.

Our next article is written by Mr . Hamid Reza Fartoukzadeh and “deals with the system Dynamics”. He discusses theoretical foundations and practical approaches to system dynamics in various organizations. Although the elements of system dynamics had been used by early scholars, vigorous work for its implementation has been done by modern management scientists. J. W. Forester in his famous work, Industrial Dynamics (1961), has made a significant contribution to both theoretical and applied aspects of the system dynamics. His work is enhanced and developed by subsequent scientists who were able to use computers and simulations in developing new models to solve complicated human problems. Today the system dynamics enjoys global application and appreciation by academic and professional associations.

An interesting discussion of the concept of equilibrium and its application to the nature and organization has been l)resented by Yousef Farboudi “The Expansion of Equilibrium Theory”. lie views equilibrium from various angles of individual, organizational, social, and natural perspectives. The aims of all these units are to create a condition where a balance is created and maintained between their various parts. From the organizational perspective, equilibrium strives at creating compatibility, harmony, coordination, and units among different units of the organization. If such conditions do not prevail in an organization it is generally understood that the organization has lost its equilibrium due to the influences of internal factors on its operations.

As field research has become increasingly dependent on statistical analysis, Mr . Adel Azar has provided our readers with a list of common pitfalls which may dilute the work of the present day researchers. In his article, “Application of Analytical Statistics to Behavioral Sciences and its Pitfalls”, the author examines major areas where such pitfalls have been widely noted. These areas include the population and sample size, identification of the characteristics of interest within the population, replacing research variables and analytical techniques with those which are more convenient to researchers, false associations, parametric statistics versus non-parametric statistics, small-size expected frequencies, the degree of freedom of one (Yate), and analysis of variance, etc. In each of the above areas the author has explained the common pitfalls and warned managers against them.
