There are two techniques for understanding the organizational environment of systems:
critical success factors (CSFs) and context diagrams, which have been thoroughly analysed in this article.
In this article, the author discusses organizational objectives & goals; strategics and policies; and structure in the context of the CSFs; that is, CSF method is described as a technique for identifying organizational information requirements.
The second technique is a structural graphical tool for Identifying the organization’s functional areas and processes that are performed within and between these areas and between the organization and the outside world. A context diagram can be used to determine the boundaries and general objectives of a system.
