In an article titled "The .key to Organizational.
Viability'', I have .discussed the role of
controlling process to maintain organizational
health and longevity. Control is essential for
effective operation and the viability of every
system, be it individual, group, social or
otherwise. Although the various stages of
management process play important roles in
organizational effectiveness the control stage
is most significant due to its particular role in
measuring performance and delineating
deviations from plans.
Management control involves methods and
procedures .t hat insure compatibility. of
strategies and activities with plans and
standards. Unfortunately, social perception of
control has -oft en been associated -with
negative measures. It reminds people of
limitations, coercion, boundaries, watchdogs,
and manipulation to .bring people under one's
sphere of influence. Managers should see that'
such negative aspects of control do not
outweigh its tremendous benefits to the
organizations .well as to society as a whole.
